Trump has threatened Mexico and Canada with tariffs

US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose duties on Mexico for cases of “explosive” diarrhea in the United States and Canada for smoke from large-scale forest fires.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) previously revealed that cases of “explosive” diarrhea in the United States are associated with crushed iceberg lettuce shipped to the country from Mexico. Meanwhile, smog from wildfires in Canada has affected a number of American states and major cities.

“I think we will impose a large duty on Mexico because of the lettuce and a large duty on Canada because of the smoke,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

According to the US president, he has already asked Canada to “do something about this (smoke).”

Trump had already announced on Tuesday that he was still thinking about imposing duties on Canada due to the wildfires, stressing that these measures were being considered separately and in addition to the previously imposed 50 percent tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods.
