India, Iran to discuss Afghan peace

Iranian top diplomat met with his Indian counterpart to discuss the latest political developments in the intra-Afghan peace talks.

Both India and Iran are looking for ways to actively participate in the intra-Afghan peace talks, said Mohammad Javad Zarif and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the foreign ministers who met in Tajikistan’s capital of Dushanbe on Monday afternoon.

During the meeting, Mr Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Iran’s constructive and effective role in Afghanistan’s peace process and stressed the need for cooperation in the region. Over the decades, India and the Islamic Republic of Iran help to consolidate peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Dushanbe for a 2-day visit to participate in a ministerial meeting of the ‘Heart of Asia’ – Istanbul Process initiative and to meet with the Central Asian country’s high-ranking officials, MehrNews has learned.
