Italy to extend state of emergency until April 30th

Italy’s government is ready to extend the state of emergency (SoE) due to rising number od COVID-19. As The Local Italy says, the restriction extended until April 30th.

Italy’s health minister Roberto Speranza on Wednesday confirmed the extension of many current strict rules from January 15th. So far, the EU country showed the coronavirus infections had risen for the first time in six weeks.

Taking into account previous experience, the government’s fears that a third wave of the COVID-19 is on its way. Minister Speranza warned that extension of SoE will help to curb the pandemic.

“This week there has been a general deterioration in the epidemiological situation in Italy,” Speranza told parliament’s lower house, stating that the epidemic is “in a phase of expansion again” as he outlined plans for the next emergency decree.

The SoE gives wider powers to both the national and regional authorities. Additionally, it allows PM to introduce, change, and revoke rules quickly via emergency decrees.
