Pashinyan’s party did not get 50 percent of the vote in the Armenian elections

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party received less than half of the votes after processing all ballots, according to the CEC.

The political force gained 49.81%. This is less than is required for the sole formation of a government. At the same time, Pashinyan claims that his party will receive a parliamentary majority and appoint ministers.

On Monday night, the prime minister announced the victory of the “Civil Contract” when the CEC processed only 10% of the ballots. At that time, it had 54.64%, but then this figure dropped sharply.

The Strong Armenia bloc of entrepreneur Samvel Karapetyan took the second place with 23.29%, and the Armenia Alliance of former President Robert Kocharian took the third place, gaining 9.94%. The Prosperous Armenia party also received 4%.

Aram Vardevanyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia party, previously noted that many violations were recorded during the elections. According to him, there were cases when several people were registered in the apartment, and there were 35 on the list.

Karapetyan also reported mass arrests of opposition supporters.

Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a representative of the Armenia Party, stressed that the authorities used the electoral carousel, intimidated voters and tried to influence their expression of will.

The National Assembly of Armenia has at least 101 deputies, their term of office is five years. 18 political forces competed for the mandates: 16 parties and two blocs, including Pashinyan’s “Civil Contract”, which has held the prime minister’s post since 2018 and intends to remain in power for at least another five years. The turnout was 58.97%.
