Starmer will leave the post of British Prime Minister at his own request, according to media reports

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will leave the post on his own initiative, writes Dan Hodges, a columnist for the British edition of the Daily Mail, citing government sources.

“Keir Starmer has told his close friends that he intends to step down as prime minister,” the article says.

According to Hodges’ interlocutors, the head of government understands the political situation in the country, but wants to leave office with dignity.

“It is still unclear exactly when this statement will be made,” the columnist clarified.

In May, almost a hundred MPs called on the prime minister to resign after the Labour Party’s failure in the local elections. Several government officials resigned in protest, including Health Minister Wes Streeting, who is considered a key rival of Starmer.

As the Telegraph newspaper wrote, Manchester Mayor Sandy Burnham, who is also considered an opponent of the current head of the ruling party, intends to be elected to parliament, which will allow him to fight for the prime minister’s seat.
