In London, police detained more than 30 people at a protest rally

In London, police detained more than 30 people at a large-scale protest against British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Scotland Yard said.

Today, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators marched to Downing Street, where the office of the head of government is located. They shouted slogans criticizing his migration policy and what they consider to be restrictions on freedom of speech. Then the participants began a rally in front of the parliament building.

“The rallies in both protest actions are continuing. At the moment, 31 people have been detained,” the report says.

According to the police, there were no serious incidents.

The organizer of the march, right-wing anti-Islamic activist Tommy Robinson, yesterday called on the British not to pay attention to threats and intimidation from the authorities.

Downing Street had previously announced that on Saturday the police would conduct the largest public order operation in recent years, involving thousands of security forces, helicopters, drones and armored vehicles.

At the same time, a small counter-protest of leftist and Islamic activists gathered in another part of London. They opposed restrictions on migration, calling for accepting refugees.

In May, almost a hundred MPs called on Starmer to step down after the Labour Party’s electoral failure. Several members of the government resigned in protest, including Health Minister Wes Streeting, who is considered a key rival of the prime minister.
