Drug gangs in France are getting out of control, the Nice prosecutor said

Nice Prosecutor Damien Martinelli lamented the way drug traffickers in France got out of control after the shooting that killed several people in Nice, and then the massacre of a teenager in Nantes.

Earlier this week, two people were killed and six injured in a drug-related shooting in Nice, France. On Thursday, a 15-year-old teenager was killed in a similar incident in Nantes, and two others, aged 13 and 14, were injured.

“We are facing a huge consumption (of drugs) at the same time… and with absolutely uncontrolled violence, which is linked to the activities of drug traffickers,” Martinelli said on RTL radio.

The prosecutor stressed that young people are increasingly being involved in drug trafficking in France, whose share of those convicted of such crimes has increased from 9% to 29% in ten years.

Martinelli called for the fight against drug trafficking, however, acknowledging that this is a difficult and very long-term challenge for France.
