Chinese scientists have cloned highly productive dairy goats for the first time

Scientists at the Northwestern University of Agriculture and Forestry in China’s Shaanxi Province were the first in their country to carry out serial cloning of highly productive dairy goats, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.

“This is the first case in China when it was possible to carry out serial cloning of highly productive dairy goats, which marks China’s entry into the world’s leading position in the field of bioselection of dairy goats,” the agency said in a statement.

It is noted that a team of scientists involved in the genetic improvement of goats and innovations in the field of bioselection was able to overcome key technological difficulties, and on May 11, six baby goats were born, cloned by transferring somatic cell nuclei.

After several days of observation, the condition of the animals is assessed as good.
