The government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz is not reforming, but destroying the German healthcare system, Alice Weidel, co-chair of the opposition right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said.
⠀
Earlier on Friday, the Bundestag adopted a package of measures developed by the German government aimed at a large-scale reduction in healthcare costs.
⠀
“This is not a reform, but the destruction of our healthcare system by the forces of the ruling coalition. Millions of people with public health insurance will face a terrifying increase in financial burden, and basic life support services will be destroyed,” Weidel wrote on the social network X.

In April, German Chancellor Merz announced that the government had approved a package of measures to reduce the cost of compulsory health insurance in order to save money. The large-scale reform radically cuts the budgets of doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry, tying their incomes to tight limits.
