The Iranian Foreign Ministry commented on the negotiations with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has held “useful discussions” with Oman on the regulation of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai said.

On Sunday, the Axios portal, citing sources in the region, reported that Iran and Oman had made progress in negotiations on shipping in Hormuz, but the situation in the Strait remained unchanged: it was still closed.

“During the negotiations between Iran and Oman, which took place on Friday and Saturday, useful discussions took place on the regulation of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” Bagai said during a briefing.
He added that the exchange of views between Iran and Oman is ongoing.

At the same time, as Bagai noted, negotiations with Oman have nothing to do with dialogue with the United States.

Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that several rounds of dialogue between Iran and Oman at the level of deputy foreign ministers were held in Tehran on July 24 and 25, discussing general principles and practical mechanisms for managing safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the ministry, Iran and Oman have made progress in the dialogue on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but the situation with the waterway remains unchanged.
