Netanyahu intends to attend the UN General Assembly, despite Mamdani’s threats

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to attend a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, despite threats from the mayor of the city, Zohran Mamdani, to execute the warrant of the International Criminal Court for the arrest of the Israeli prime minister.

Earlier, Mamdani said he was exploring the possibility of detaining the Israeli Prime Minister in the event of his visit to New York, citing an International Criminal Court warrant. He later admitted that the city administration did not have the authority to execute the warrant, and called on the US federal authorities to do so.

“No, I’m not worried (about these threats) and, of course, I intend to come,” Netanyahu told Fox News.

The Israeli Prime Minister also recalled that since taking office, he has participated in the UN General Assembly session almost every year. According to him, the only reason that could prevent his trip to New York is the possible deterioration of the security situation in Israel, but at the current stage there are no such concerns.

At the end of November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli ex-Defense Minister Yoav Galant for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip. US President Donald Trump has completely ruled out the possibility of detaining the Israeli Prime Minister in the United States.
