US Vice President Jay Dee Vance is among the American officials concerned about the possibility of an escalation of the military conflict with Iran, CNN reported, citing sources.

Earlier, the New York Times wrote that US President Donald Trump postponed plans to dramatically step up the military campaign against Iran due to concerns that escalation could dangerously deplete the already dwindling stocks of Patriot interceptors and other air defense munitions in the Middle East. As the newspaper noted, almost no one in Trump’s inner circle considered the escalation plan reasonable.

“Vice President Jay D. Vance and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kane, expressed concern about the escalation of the war in Iran,” the channel said in a statement.

On July 8, Trump announced that the cease-fire reached with Iran on the night of June 18 was no longer valid. The US military has carried out several series of attacks on Iran since July 8. The Central Command of the US Armed Forces claimed that this was allegedly done in response to Tehran’s actions against commercial vessels that crossed the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian military retaliated by attacking US bases in a number of Middle Eastern countries. Tehran also accused Washington of violating the memorandum on cessation of hostilities.
