Italian minister says Europe has switched to “war economy”

Italy’s Minister for Ecological Modernization and Transformation Roberto Cingolani said Europe has moved into an “economy of war”.

 “We are in an economy of war and in this economy of war, some countries will suffer much more because of the decisions of others in the field of energy,” Chingolani said.

According to the minister, the European Commission is discussing the second Recovery Plan (to restore the economies of European countries, following the example of the one adopted after the pandemic).

Earlier, he assured that Italy could get rid of dependence on Russian gas (which accounts for 40% of all gas imports) by 2024. At the same time, the minister admitted that without Russian gas, the country will experience problems in the coming winter.
