EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that Russia does not plan to conquer Ukraine, but wants adequate negotiations to harmonize security in Europe.
“The goal is not to conquer Ukraine. It is about getting negotiations to discuss important things – NATO expansion and existing security concerns. “I believe that what is important for Russia is not Ukraine, but the new security architecture in Europe. Russia has security concerns, a desire to talk about it, so Russia is putting pressure on Ukraine,” Borrell says.
Ukraine began to worry about the increase in aggression from Russia and asks the United States to maximize the sanction. The European Union, in turn, contributes to the financing of the budget of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the supply of weapons. Russia continues to reject these statements, saying that they were not going to attack anyone, there is a military operation, and statements about aggression are used as another pretext for deploying NATO military equipment on the borders of Ukraine
In 2021, Russia published a draft treaty with NATO on security guarantees, in which Moscow demanded a security guarantee from European rulers and refused to expand NATO to the east and establish military bases in post-Soviet countries.
