Vladimir Putin solidified his status, the Russian leader won the fourth term as President. Putin has garnered 76.65% of the vote in the March 18 election with 99% of the ballots counted, TASS reported.
President Putin’s popularity remains high despite his suppression of dissent and reproach from the West over Russia’s increasingly aggressive stance in world affairs. Russian people believe in Putin who gave them a vision of future Russia – strong, rich, smart country.
On March 19, 99% of the ballots were counted, the result is clear – Putin will rule Russia during next six years. With 76.65% votes for him, Putin set a new record, he is the man who has led the world’s largest country for all of the 21st century. During his election campaign, he stressed that the Russians needs unity to move forward and urged the audience to “think about the future of our great motherland”.
Putin’s victory: a fourth term as President
On Sunday, Putin addressed thousands of people who rallied outside the Kremlin to thank them for their support. Russian leader hailed those who voted for him as a “big national team”, adding that “we are bound for success”.
The 65-year-old Putin had faced seven minor candidates on the ballot, Communist candidate Pavel Grudinin and ultra-nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky trailing far behind with about 13 and 6%, respectively. Putin’s main challenge in the vote was to obtain a huge margin of victory in order to claim an indisputable mandate.
