Vladimir Putin makes Steven Seagal ‘special envoy for culture and youth’

Vladimir Putin makes Steven Seagal ‘special envoy for culture and youth’

Vladimir Putin’s move surprised many people all over the world, the Russian President has appointed an actor Steven Seagal as a special envoy to the US for “culture, arts and youth,” Express reported.

The American actor Steven Seagal shares a friendship with Vladimir Putin over years, both men are aikido fans and have a great respect for each other. Last Saturday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry had made U.S. actor and Russian citizen Steven Seagal its special representative for Russian-U.S. humanitarian ties. That new Seagal’s role was meant to deepen cultural, art and youth ties between the two superpowers.

Mr Seagal has frequently been the personal guest of the Russian leader, who was re-elected for another six-year term in May. The 66-year-old actor was invited to Moscow to watch Putin’s inauguration earlier this year.

“I’ve always had a very strong desire to do all I can to help improve Russian-American relations. I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially,”

Steven Seagal said in his interview to Russia Today channel.

Moreover, the special envoy to the US for culture, arts and youth will get nor salary, neither official duties.

Meanwhile, the US-Russian relations remain constantly at their lowest point as the ongoing investigations into alleged Russian tampering in 2016 presidential elections continue. The most recent meeting between Russian and American presidents in Finland in July saw the US president’s approval ratings rise, as did US approval ratings in Russia.
