The United States plans to double the pace of construction of nuclear submarines

The US Navy wants to receive at least three nuclear submarines annually, doubling the current pace of construction, it became known from the annual plan of the US Navy for the construction of ships.

From fiscal year 2027 to 2031, the United States plans to produce at least one Columbia-class nuclear missile carrier and two Virginia-class submarines annually.

A total of $124.9 billion is planned to be allocated for the construction of submarines for this period. Of these, $62 billion will be allocated for five Columbia missile carriers, and the remaining amount for ten Virginia submarines.

Another $6.2 billion will be invested in the development of the shipbuilding industry.

Over the past ten years, American shipyards have transferred an average of only 1.4 attack submarines per year to the US Navy.

At the same time, the US Navy announced in 2024 that the supply of Virginia submarines would be postponed by 2-3 years, according to congressional documents.
