Prince Harry, Meghan Markle engaged, but she will never be Princess Meghan

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle engaged, but she will never be Princess Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave an interview, during which the royal shared the details about their lives and feelings. But even the wedding bells ring, actress Merkle will never be Princess Meghan, say the experts.

Upon marrying Prince Harry Meghan will get all the pomp of royal life, a cottage next to a palace and ability to be a part of the inner circle at sumptuous banquets. Despite all these pluses, there is one bold minus – a perk Markle will never be able to refer to herself as “Princess Meghan”.

According to heraldic experts, once she weds, Ms Markle will be titled the Duchess of Sussex and her husband the Duke of Sussex. Charles Kidd, editor of Debrett’s Peerage and Baronetage, told the UK’s The Telegraph:

“They’re quite limited in the titles that are available. The Duke of Sussex is the frontrunner without any doubt.”

In other words, like Catherine Middleton, Meghan will become a duchess, not princess in her own right. She has no blue blood, unfortunately, so she will become a “Princess of the United Kingdom” thanks only to Prince Harry. Not being born into the royal family, her title will always be inextricably linked to Harry.

Kate Middleton became Princess William of Wales but she preferred to style herself instead as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Due to an archaic law, Kate and William faced the possibility that while their eldest son would be a prince, any daughters would not be princesses. It took a special rule change by the Queen to make Charlotte the equal to her big brother. Will Queen do the same for Harry and Meghan offspring?
