Malaysian fashion critic suggests those weighing more than 60kg should not attend catwalk shows

Zaihani Mohamad Zain, Malaysian fashion guru, was slammed for her saying that people weighing more than 60kg should not attend catwalk shows.

With her sharp tongue and her forwardness, she has made an impact on Malaysia’s fashion industry, and now her opinion in the local fashion scene is one of the most sought after. The stylist allowed herself write an awful post:

“If you weigh more than 60kg, please don’t attend fashion events. Your huge thighs will take up so much room, making people sitting beside you uncomfortable.”

These words caused an immediate backlash on the social media, and Zaihani Mohamad Zain preferred to delete this bullying post.

Designer Calvin Thoo slammed Zain, he wrote on his Facebook page that the stylist has no right to criticise plus size people or telling them not to attend fashion shows.

In fact, Malaysia has the highest rates of obesity in Asia, according to a study in British medical journal The Lancet. Earlier, Ms Zain during the interview with Malaysia’s Tatler insisted that weight and fashion are tied very close:

“If you love fashion and enjoy dressing up, then there are sacrifices to be made. Watch your weight. People may say size doesn’t matter but who are we kidding? It does!”
