BBC promises to adapt John le Carré novel for new TV series

BBC is very impressed with the successful adaptation of John le Carré’s novel: The Night Manager became popular and got a couple of Golden Globe awards. The next step for BBC now is the adaptation of another Carré’s book. 

BBC planned to adapt for TV the book by John Le Carré’s, which tells the story of the hard-drinking British intelligence officer in East Berlin during the Cold War. New script for the adptation will be written by the famous writer, it is Simon Beaufoy who won his Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.

In the original movie of 1965, the leading role played Richard Burton and now, Le Carré said he was looking forward to seeing his novel on screen again.

The author Le Carré said he is very excited by The Night Manager and its success, so the next adaptation from BBC is highly appreciated. By the way, new TV-series will be a co–production with US network AMC as well.

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold is set in 1962, months after the building of the Berlin Wall. The author Le Carré expressed his enthusiasm and desire to see the drama’s reincarnation:

“I’m very excited by the project, and have great confidence in the team.”

The screenplay writer Beaufoy added:

“It’s incredibly exciting to be working on the best Cold War spy story ever written.”

The Ink Factory will be the producing company, the work on The Night Manager prove its ability to create relly great films. The new spy drama will be produced in association with Character 7, said Piers Wenger, controler of BBC Drama:

“Following the huge global success of The Night Manager, it’s a privilege to announce that John le Carre will return to BBC One with one of the best spy thrillers ever written.”
